My interest for graphic design started when I was 13 years old. As a teenager, playing computer was the way to waste time. I played a lot of Counter-Strike with a group of friends and after a while we created a “clan”. We needed to show the World who we were, so we needed a homepage. I was assigned to do this task, as a result I acquired an illegal license of Photoshop 1.5 (shhh, don’t tell anyone).
Accordingly I started studying how a webpage was built, and after a while I discovered a pattern on how to build a web design. With no experience, my results were less than perfect, but I thought it was amazingly inspiring so I wanted more. Luckily, I met a guy at school named Emil Juul, who had a great amount of experience in coding and designing webpages. We teamed up and used all of our spare time designing web designs for fun.
As time went by, and we started at the same high school, fun turned to business. In class we met a guy who was a pure talent in coding webpages. With his coding experience, and Emil and my own flair for design, we started a business creating web solutions for both B2C and B2B. The business was a terrific opportunity for me to learn how to account for customers’ demands and creating products suiting their needs. The business lasted through our high school years, but closed when we graduated due to us being at different places in our lives.
After two years of full-time work at a kindergarten, I applied for my dream education at the School of Visual Communication in Haderslev, Denmark. I had heard about how great the school was years back from another SVC student. Moving from Aarhus to Haderslev was a big step for me, but I have loved it ever since. The education and exploring a new city has given me the desire to experience other places in the world, and thereby expand my network.
I think it is an absolute privilege to do what you love every single day. And working with graphic design has given me that privilege. With the most experience in web design, it is the branch of graphic design I love the most. With the industry constantly evolving, having the chance to be the first mover is something I strive for.
