閑 / xián / sian

  •

  • Xián or "Sian" is a common phrase commonly uttered by Singaporeans, meaning to be bored, tired or idle and is definitely used too often, in any situation such as at school or when doing work. These classic toys are the very defence that we’ve used from the time we were kids to keep the "sian-ness" away.

This is a a collaboration to re-package those simple but beautiful toys we've loved from the time we were young
and are now so nostalgic to us today.

  • Customised font for logo
  • The logo is a stylised tic-tac-toe grid, with the initial X in the centre, as commonly seen in tic tac toe for the name of the collection, "xián". The 8 icons represent each of the 8 different toys found inside.

We chose to use tic-tac-toe because it is definitely the first paper and pencil game that comes to mind that you'd use to pass time when feeling "sian". Ask any child around and it'll definitely be familiar to him or her.
  • A hinged box opens up to reveal an assortment of colourful toys! The colour scheme decided on for the packaging was red and blue, because we realised that those two colours were commonly used for the toys, such as the bubbles, tops and the Bestman bubbles.

The grid echoes the logo of the tic-tac-toe, and a stylized version of the chinese word for xian was used on all the packaging.
