Built in 1984 and expanded in multiple stages since,Kolkata's metro system bears layers of history.
That includes its signage - For better and for worse.
Prathama is a font for the Kolkata Metro System that re-imagines it's ethos using modern typographic thinking. The Kolkata Metro was the first of it's kind in India, hence the name Prathama.
The typeface Prathama has been designed for Metro signage, posters, and other text elements. The typefacehas mono linear style with eccentric elements, because “It’s about accepting it in all of its quirky little details.”
The final design has an integrated visual symmetry, no nonsense clarity. Both the scripts relate
stylistically to the metro and its architecture, and heritage.
