In the Margins / But Not Forgotten

  • The shapes of these canvases come from Byzantine mosaics, which simultaneously fracture space in to small pieces and compress it because they lack "perspective".  I am interested in fracturing and compression of space as metaphors for displacement, and these paintings are a way of thinking through these connections.
