The Los Angeles Clippers are an American professional basketball team based in Los Angeles, California. They are part of the National Basketball Association and play in the Pacific Division of the league’s Western Conference. The LA Clippers currently play their home games at the Staples Center, an arena and court shared with the Los Angeles Lakers, another team and rival in the NBA.
The franchise was founded in 1970 as the Buffalo Braves and was rebranded in 1978 as the San Diego Clippers when the team transferred to San Diego, California. Not until 1984 did the team became known as the LA Clippers. Throughout much of its history in the NBA, the basketball franchise failed to see significant success. They are frequently seen as losers in American professional sports and are often compared to the other highly successful Los Angeles basketball team, LA Lakers.
Not until the past few years did the LA Clippers become a formidable team in the NBA, with better management and player acquisition. In 2013 they earned their very first division title, becoming close rivals of the LA Lakers as they finished with a better record than the LA Lakers. They have managed to repeat this win as division champions in 2014.
After surviving and shedding its reputation as one of the worst teams in the NBA, only to be involved in a controversy that tarnished their growing respectable reputation, the LA Clippers is a team deserving of a rebrand. Not to mention that the current LA Clippers logo is very similar to the LA Lakers logo; the team has a rapid growing fanbase not only in Los Angeles but also nationwide and internationally.
